Ludwig & Co.

Antique Ludwig & Co. New York Upright Piano Victorian Era

$179.99
Musical Instruments

Rare antique upright piano by Ludwig & Co., New York - a respected American piano maker active in the late 19th to early 20th century. The fallboard displays a beautifully gold-stenciled 'Ludwig & Co. New York' logo with a sunburst/lotus trade mark emblem in classic Victorian script. The plate inside the cabinet is also marked 'LUDWIG & CO.' confirming authenticity. The cabinet is mahogany-finished wood with ornate Victorian styling: decorative carved foliate panel above the music desk, turned column legs (four legs with cross stretcher), shaped lower panel with cartouche molding, and reeded/ogee molding throughout. Three pedals visible. Condition of cabinet: Shows significant age-related wear - paint/finish loss and chipping visible across the lower panel and sides, surface scratches, darkening and patina consistent with estimated 100+ year age. The front panel (below keys) shows notable finish flaking. Keyboard: Keys present, ivory-colored naturals show yellowing and surface wear; some keys have colored felt indicators (likely from a teaching aid overlay). Action/hammers are exposed and visible - the top door appears removed or open. Hammers and action parts visible but condition of internal workings unknown. This piano is being sold as-is. It likely requires significant restoration (voicing, tuning, regulation, restringing, and possibly key and action reconditioning) to be playable. Its primary value may be decorative/antique. PICKUP ONLY - piano is very heavy and will require professional movers. Serial number on plate should be recorded for dating purposes via the Pierce Piano Atlas.
