Furniture Its Selection and Use 1931 US Dept of Commerce Wood Utilization Bookle
Furniture: Its Selection and Use, the report of the Subcommittee on Furniture of the National Committee on Wood Utilization, published by the U.S. Department of Commerce through the Government Printing Office in 1931. Staple bound booklet in printed kraft wrappers, with a strong pen and ink cover illustration signed Mowery in the plate showing a skirted wing chair, a tripod pedestal table with a book and a table lamp beside a curtained window. The recorded edition runs iv plus 115 pages and covers how to judge construction, woods, finishes, upholstery and period styles, written for the household buyer at the start of the 1930s. A genuinely useful reference for anyone studying period furniture, and an attractive piece of Depression era government design work. The cover is tanned, with edge wear, a few short edge splits and a light crease across the lower panel; the staples are holding. Only the cover was photographed at intake, so please ask if you need interior photos or a page count check before buying.
