1934 Ancker Nurses Training School Yearbook Anchors Away St Paul Minnesota Signe
Anchors Away, the Class of Thirty Four yearbook of the Ancker Nurses Training School, Saint Paul, Minnesota. The cover is a blue gray board with a navy city skyline and cloud design, gold lettering and the round Ancker seal with its anchor and lamp, bound at the top with a black cord. Landscape format, roughly 11 by 8.5 inches. Inside is a full picture of Depression era hospital nursing: formal portraits of the hospital staff, including Superintendent F. G. Carter M.D., Assistant Superintendents S. R. Lee M.D. and T. E. Broadie M.D., Educational Director M. C. Sands, Assistant Superintendent of Nurses Myrtle M. Hollo and Instructor Etta Lubberts; the annual staff page; class group photographs from capping exercises and senior events; and student written pieces including Campus Days at Ancker, The Diet Kitchen Stove and the Senior Pow Wow poem dated October 12, 1933. It also carries handwritten ink inscriptions, including a personal note signed by instructor Etta Lubberts next to her own portrait, which makes this a presentation copy rather than a plain shelf copy. Condition is honest for ninety years: the cover has edge scuffing, light soiling and peeling with color loss at the lower right corner; pages are toned with scattered age spotting and mild waviness; the cord binding is intact and no torn pages were seen. A strong piece for a nursing history, medical or Saint Paul and Ramsey County collector.
