Original oil on canvas of Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia by New Hope, Pennsylvania artist Gale Shanks Scotch, signed G. Scotch at the lower left. A cheerful folk impressionist view of the famous fishing village: a red dory and lobster boat at the wharf, fish sheds and white clapboard houses climbing the granite shore, the church steeple, a figure rowing on the turquoise cove, a picket fence and a foreground of lupines and goldenrod, all under a bright blue sky. Thick, textured brushwork with vivid color. The artist's business card is taped to the back with the title "Peggy's Cove N.S." and her original price of $400 in her hand; the stretcher is stamped 040103. Canvas approximately 10 by 14 inches. Wide flat profile gold leaf wood frame, overall approximately 16 by 19 inches (measured from photos, please allow small variance). Not glazed. Condition: canvas is clean with no cracking, losses or inpainting seen. Frame has minor scuffs and light handling wear to the leaf.
