Classic Pictorial Screen Stage Magazine 1920s John Barrymore Cover E Dahl Art
A June issue of Classic, Pictorial of Screen and Stage, the silent era fan magazine that grew out of Motion Picture Classic, with a striking color cover portrait of John Barrymore in profile. The cover art is signed in the lower right by the illustrator, reading E. Dahl, and Barrymore's name is printed beneath the image. The art nouveau masthead and the soft airbrushed portrait style are characteristic of the magazine's 1920s run. Roughly 10 by 13 inches. Condition is rough and priced that way: the top edge has substantial tearing and paper loss across the masthead, the right edge is chipped, there is loss at the lower right that runs into the printed border, a short crease or tear crosses the forehead area, and there is general tanning and foxing throughout. The Barrymore portrait itself is still bright and almost entirely intact, which is what most buyers of this piece will care about, since covers like this are usually bought to mat and frame. Please note the interior pages have not been collated, so buy this for the cover.
