1915 Gould Storage Battery Print Ad William Harnden Foster Submarine Touring Car
Original 1915 full page magazine advertisement for the Gould Storage Battery, copyright 1915 G.S.B. Co., N.Y. The color illustration is signed in the plate William Harnden Foster 1915 and shows a red open touring car pulled up on a stone quay, a naval officer in summer whites standing beside it, a surfaced submarine running under an American flag just off the wall and a battleship making smoke on the horizon. Below the picture sits an elaborate engraved cartouche with the Gould blackletter logo and the slogan The Strong Right Arm of a Starting Lighting System. A library or archive receipt stamp reading FEB 11 1916 appears in the lower right margin. Single page removed from the magazine, printed both sides, roughly 10 by 14 inches. Original period printing, not a modern reproduction. Condition is good for paper of this age: toning and light yellowing through the margins, a small tear and fold at the upper right corner, a horizontal crease across the lower third, and edge nicks. The illustration itself is clean with the color still strong. Frames well, and it crosses over between early automobilia and naval collecting.
