Antique Copper Intaglio Printing Plate Clipped Corners Thumb Notch 4x6 in

Solid copper printing plate, rectangular with all four corners clipped at an angle and a shallow thumb notch cut into the center of the bottom edge, a shape used for hand held intaglio plates. Roughly 4 by 6 inches judging by the hand holding it. The face carries a heavy brown and russet patina with scattered pale mineral deposits, a dark oxidized area at the upper left, fine surface scratches, and two longer diagonal marks across the center. The metal is rigid and flat with no bending, warping or splits. One honest caveat for buyers: the engraved image is not legible in the photograph shown, and the plate is being offered without an attribution of subject, engraver or date. Additional photographs taken in raking light, and an ink pull or pencil rubbing if the buyer wants one, are available on request before purchase.
