National Geographic 1942 Theater of War Map Europe Africa Western Asia WWII Orig
Original National Geographic Society supplement map, Theater of War in Europe, Africa and Western Asia, July 1942, issued with the article on the western front. Compiled and drawn in the Cartographic Section of the National Geographic Society for The National Geographic Magazine, Gilbert Grosvenor editor, printed by A. Hoen and Co. Lithographers of Baltimore. Scale 1:15,000,000, about 236.7 miles to the inch, with international boundaries shown as of September 1, 1939. The wartime political geography is all here: French West Africa, French Equatorial Africa, the Cameroons, the Belgian Congo, Anglo Egyptian Sudan, Italian East Africa, British Somaliland, Tanganyika and Trans Jordan. An airline distances in statute miles table fills the lower left corner. Opens to roughly 27 by 31 inches. This is an original 1942 printing, not one of the modern reproductions sold framed and rolled. Condition is good for its age: original fold lines throughout, light toning and yellowing at the edges and along the folds, colors still vivid, no tears or missing sections.
