$18.00
Collectibles

Penn State promotional flyer for Day and Evening Classes at the Allentown Center, printed in green on tan cardstock, about 8.5 by 11 inches. The seal in the header reads The Pennsylvania State College, 1855. Programs of study listed are Accounting, Business Administration, Television, Building Construction, Industrial Electricity, Mechanical and Production, and Tool Design. Registration ran January 29, 30, 31 and February 1 from 2 to 7 and 9 p.m. at the Sheridan School Building at 2nd and Liberty Streets, plus Saturday January 27 through Saturday February 3 at 39 N. Fifth Street. Classes met Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. Contact is the Penn State Center in Allentown, 39 N. 5th Street second floor, phone Allentown 5-3881, in the pre area code format. The flyer is marked Approved for Veterans, for GI Bill students. Dating: the school was called The Pennsylvania State College until it became a university in 1953, and January 27 fell on a Saturday in 1951, which matches the printed calendar exactly, so this is almost certainly the January 1951 term. Condition is good and fully legible, with tanning, light foxing, edge wear, bent corners, and a small edge split at the right side. A strong piece of Lehigh Valley local history, with the Television program of study reflecting the early 1950s push to train TV technicians.
