Antique Hand Blown Green Glass Round Bottom Bulbous Flask Long Neck Seed Bubbles
Hand-blown green glass bottle in the round bottom form, with a bulbous egg-shaped body, a long tapered neck and a thick applied ring collar at the lip. Overall length about 8 to 9 inches, body roughly 4 inches at its widest. The base is fully rounded, so the bottle cannot stand on its own and was made to lie on its side or rest in a stand or basket. Round bottom bottles were used for soda and mineral water, the round base keeping the cork wet so it would not dry and let the carbonation escape; most date from the 1870s into the early 1900s. The glass is a soft sage to bottle green with seed bubbles set through it, including one dime-sized trapped bubble on the upper body, all original to the blowing. There is no embossing anywhere and no pontil scar on the base. Condition, honestly: no cracks and no chips to the body, but the lip collar has roughness and possible slight chipping on the inner rim edge, and the body carries heavy criss-cross surface scratching over most of its surface, the wear a bottle picks up from years in a basket or crate. There is dirt in the crevices around the lip ring and inside the neck. Photographs are of the actual piece and show the wear honestly.
