Antique Sun-Purpled Amethyst Glass Bottle Flask, Pontil Base

$18.00
Collectibles

A lovely antique glass bottle featuring a natural amethyst purple hue in the lower half, fading to clear at the shoulders and neck. The purple color is the result of manganese dioxide in the original glass formula reacting to prolonged sun or UV exposure, a reliable indicator of pre-1920s manufacture. The bottle has a rounded, flask-like body with gently sloping shoulders, a short narrow neck, and a neatly applied rolled or sheared lip. The base shows a distinct pontil scar, consistent with hand-finishing during production. Bubbles and slight surface irregularities are visible in the glass, further confirming early manufacture. The interior shows some light mineral haze or residue typical of age. No chips or cracks visible. Approximate height is 5 to 6 inches based on proportions in photos. Makes a beautiful display piece on a sunny windowsill where the color will glow.
