S.H.P. Co. Elephant Brand Leather Cement Antique Aqua Glass Bottle Newark NJ Cor
Charming miniature antique glass bottle of Elephant brand Leather Cement, manufactured by S.H.P. Co. of Newark, New Jersey. The bottle features a beautiful aqua-tinted hand-blown glass body with characteristic bubbles and slight irregularities typical of late 19th to early 20th century production. It retains its original cork stopper, which shows age and deterioration consistent with the era. The original paper label is present and displays the iconic elephant graphic at center, surrounded by the product name and directions reading: 'Skive and buff the fibre fully open, apply a heavy coat of cement evenly to each part, dry until white, heat until well softened, then press firmly together. Keep tightly corked.' The label shows expected age wear, some losses along edges, and browning, but remains largely intact and highly legible. The bottle is roughly 3 inches tall with a wide mouth and rolled lip, consistent with cork-finish bottles of the period. The base shows a pontil-style indentation and embossed text along the base edge. No chips or cracks observed on the glass itself. Contents appear to be absent or fully dried. A wonderful piece for collectors of antique advertising, apothecary bottles, or leather craft history.
