Dalmau Hermanos Tarragona Spain Matador Bullfighter Figurine Mid-20th Century
Charming hand-painted Spanish bullfighter figurine made by Dalmau Hermanos of Tarragona, Spain. The figure depicts a matador in full traditional traje de luces costume, wearing a cobalt blue embroidered jacket, yellow knee breeches, black montera hat, red sash, and tall boots. He holds a sword in one hand and a red muleta cape in the other, standing on a solid black circular base. The piece appears to be cast from plaster or chalk composition and finished with vibrant hand-applied paint in blue, yellow, red, orange, and black. Embossed maker's marks are clearly stamped into the base, reading 'Dalmau Hermanos, Tarragona' along with additional text. Approximate height is 7 to 8 inches. The front is well-detailed and colorful. The reverse shows some paint loss and light scuffing on the lower half, and the base shows wear and minor chipping consistent with age. A great piece of mid-20th century Spanish folk art and souvenir craft.
