Vintage English Aneroid Barometer Thermometer Wall Station, Wood
A handsome mid-20th century wall-mount weather station made in England, combining an aneroid compensated barometer with an integrated Fahrenheit and Centigrade thermometer on a shaped walnut-toned wooden backboard. The barometer dial is silvered with classic weather notations, reading Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, and Very Dry, with a dual scale showing inches of mercury (28-31) and millibars (950-1050). The needle and setting pointer are intact. Below the barometer, the lower paddle section holds a glass-tube thermometer scaled from 20 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit and 0 to 50 degrees Centigrade. The face of the barometer reads 'Made in England' and 'Compensated.' A decorative scrollwork motif appears on the thermometer plate. Overall dimensions are approximately 26 inches tall and 7 inches at the widest point of the barometer section. The wood shows light age-related scratches and minor surface wear consistent with decades of use. The brass bezel has light tarnish and minor grime in the crevices. The dial face is clean and legible. A stamped number '638' appears on the back of the wooden board. Thermometer tube appears intact with visible fluid column.
