John Maddock & Sons Royal Vitreous Antique Pitcher Set, Pink Roses
A charming three-piece Victorian-era washstand set by John Maddock and Sons, England, finished in their Royal Vitreous ironstone body. The set includes a large water pitcher, a smaller secondary pitcher or shaving mug, and a covered soap or trinket dish with a loop handle on the lid. All three pieces share the same delicate pink climbing rose motif with soft green leaves and gold gilt accents scattered across a crisp white ground. The large pitcher features a ruffled, scalloped rim with ribbed gilt detailing at the neck and a substantial side handle - a classic late Victorian washbowl pitcher form. The smaller vessel has a matching ruffled rim and the same floral spray. The covered dish shows the same pattern continuing around its sides and lid. All three pieces bear the identical backstamp: John Maddock and Sons, England, Royal Vitreous, with a crown device, consistent with production dating from roughly the 1890s to early 1900s. Some light age-related wear and minor surface marks are visible on the bases. The large pitcher stands approximately 12-13 inches tall; the small pitcher approximately 5-6 inches; the covered dish approximately 4-5 inches in diameter. A lovely display set for a Victorian or cottage-style interior.
