Antique Black Iron Door Backplate Escutcheon Keyhole Hardware 1880s-1930s
Vintage black iron door backplate, likely an escutcheon or door knob backplate from the early 20th century or earlier architectural hardware. The plate tapers from a wider bottom to a narrower top, featuring a round countersunk screw hole near the top and a larger round keyhole or knob spindle opening with an additional smaller slot hole near the bottom. The piece has a bent lip or tab at the very top, suggesting it mounted under a rail or trim piece. Finished in a dark japanned or painted black iron with age-appropriate patina, light surface oxidation, and rubbing throughout. Approximate dimensions are roughly 8 to 9 inches long and 1.5 to 2 inches wide at the base. A solid, heavy-gauge iron piece with good structural integrity. A great candidate for restoration hardware projects or matching period door sets.
