Vintage Gilbert No. 16 Chemistry Set and Microscope Kit 1950s
A substantial collection of vintage A.C. Gilbert science toys from the 1950s, offered together as one lot. The set includes three blue metal cabinet cases that open to reveal original yellow-painted interior trays and storage. The left cabinet is labeled 'No. 16 Gilbert Chemistry' and holds two rows of original chemical vials and tubes, most with original Gilbert labels still intact, plus a metal scoop tool. The center cabinet is labeled 'The set with the famous Gilbert Microscope, Polaroid Equipped, 60-90-120 Magnification' and features a bright green interior with a Polaroid Junior filter disc, boxes labeled Fish Scales, Cover Glasses, and Labels, plus a specimen tube and a rolled red felt pad. The right cabinet has a deep blue interior lined with shelves holding approximately 16 glass chemical reagent jars with original yellow lids and Gilbert labels. Also included are the Gilbert metal microscope itself (monocular, gray metal body, 60x-90x-120x magnification), a 'How to Use the Gilbert Microscope' instruction booklet, a 'Gilbert Glass Blowing' activity booklet, two Gilbert Chemistry test paper packets (sulphide and litmus), a wire triangle stand, tweezers, a glass tube, three pencils or rods, and a blue disc accessory. Cabinets measure approximately 13 inches tall by 10 inches wide by 3 inches deep each. The cabinets show significant wear consistent with age: paint loss and peeling on the exterior blue finish and interior yellow panels, rust on metal hardware, and soiling throughout. Chemical vials and jars appear largely present but completeness is not guaranteed. A rare opportunity to acquire a large, largely intact mid-century Gilbert science set grouping.
