German Beer Stein Lidded Ceramic Cobalt Blue Alpine Scene Pewter Lid
Beautiful German beer stein featuring a cobalt blue glaze background with detailed hand-painted and relief-molded Alpine scene. The front panel depicts a Bavarian chalet/farmhouse set against mountain scenery, framed by an ornate cartouche with the inscription 'Ein Schatzeri' (a German term of endearment). The opposite side shows traditional Bavarian folk dancers in colorful costume. Decorative edelweiss flowers in relief accent both sides. The ornate relief-molded handle features scrollwork detailing. The pewter (Zinn) lid is elaborately detailed with a tiered conical finial, engraved floral and scroll motifs, and a functioning thumb-lift lever with decorative leaf motif. The interior glaze is clean and in good condition. The neck and base feature an amber/tan salt-glaze band typical of German stoneware. Approximate height with lid: 7-8 inches. A classic Bavarian souvenir or export stein, likely mid-to-late 20th century.
