Antique Mellor & Co White Ironstone Pitcher Jug Victorian Staffordshire
Large white ironstone pitcher by Mellor & Co, a Staffordshire pottery firm active in the mid-to-late 19th century. Features a classic bulbous body with a wide flared spout, applied loop handle with decorative thumb-rest terminal, and a subtle molded shell/scroll motif at the handle attachment point. The glaze is white/ivory throughout with a soft, matte-to-satin finish typical of ironstone ware of the period. Condition: Significant age-related crazing across the entire exterior surface, with dirt and grime embedded in the crazing lines - consistent with heavy use and long storage. The base foot ring shows substantial clay/dirt accumulation and notable glaze loss/chipping. Interior shows dark staining and debris at the bottom. No chips or cracks observed at the rim or spout upon visual inspection, though close hands-on examination is recommended. Backstamp on base clearly reads 'MELLOR & CO' with a royal arms cartouche. Approximate height: 10 - 12 inches (confirm before listing). Displays well as a farmhouse-style or Victorian antique accent piece after cleaning. Ships carefully packed; local pickup also available.
